Why we have become a Totara partner

Moodle is a great Learning Management System that is used by millions of learners around the world. Its ecosystem of plug-ins and themes makes it flexible and easy to customise; it's the perfect platform for blended learning. We have seen it work really well for training organisations and small workplace learning programs, but it falls down when it's used as an enterprise learning platform.

Some of the reasons we have seen Moodle fall down are:

• A lack of reporting features that reflect the hierarchical way most organisations report, eg a team manager can't see the course completions for their team.
• It doesn't include performance management. This is something clients have repeatedly asked for.
• It lacks good competency management features.

Last year we worked with a couple of organisations to help them choose a new Learning Management System and we saw Totara as one of the best options on the market currently for a reasonable cost. It solves all the problems, plus has some great feature integrations to go with HR systems that are really fast to develop. This is why Sprout Labs has become a Totara partner.

We are looking forward to exploring how Totara can be used to support the 70:20:10 framework for workplace learning. As we are getting to know Totara better we can already see some great potential for Registered Training Organisations as well.
